Application for New Graduate Student Organization
This application is for organizations at SMU whose membership is restricted to graduate students and which are open to graduate students from all SMU schools and graduate programs. New graduate student organizations applying for temporary charter must complete the following application. Upon completion of a successful application review, your organization will be invited to attend a meeting of the Moody School Graduate Student Advisory Board. If the application is approved, your organization will be reviewed for a full charter after one year. Only organizations that can demonstrate continued activity over the temporary charter year will be granted a full charter.
The roster must include a faculty/staff advisor. The organization must also have a minimum of 6 student members.

The Constitution/By-Laws must include the required non-discrimination clause:
"[Organization Name] does not discriminate during the membership/ officer selection process based on: race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, gender, gender expression, and sexual orientation. Should the policies of our organization’s parent affiliate deviate in any way, the aforementioned standards will take precedence."
Use of the SMU name at the end of the organization name is a privilege of FULL chartered student organizations. Groups applying for temporary status may not include the SMU name in your documents. Please see
